According to data from the WorkInHealth Foundation, the healthcare industry is growing significantly and more than half of the companies in this sector plan to hire new employees by 2023. But, due to technological advances and socioeconomic changes, more than 8 million jobs will be affected in the sector by the change in required skills, so it is urgent to make it attractive to young talent, especially those with data skills. In surveys of engineering and computer science school graduates, not a single company in the healthcare sector was mentioned as a potential employer. This talent and skills gap is worrying, as the healthcare industry is already crucial in the lives of 450 million EU citizens. In Spain, the healthcare industry is the fourth sector with the highest talent mismatch, estimated at 82%. This roundtable will address - the challenges and specific skills needs (current and future) of the healthcare industry in Spain, - the role of the different actors at institutional, academic and industrial level in addressing these needs collectively - the opportunities for Spain to reinforce its leadership in the field of healthcare in Europe, also from the industrial perspective. In addition, the European initiative The Skills Partnership for the European Health Industry, promoted by DG GROW and coordinated by EIT Health, will be presented.
