Joaquín Tintoré is Research from the Spanish National Research Council, CSIC, and Director of the Spanish Large-Scale Infrastructure SOCIB, the Balearic Islands Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System that he originally proposed and designed in 2007. SOCIB is today a well-established marine research infrastructure, a multi-platform ocean observing system that is co-leading a new era of ocean observation, a key grand challenge our society is facing.
