Víctor F. Muñoz Martínez, Professor at the University of Málaga, researchs on robotics applied to minimally invasive surgery, and in 2004 he made the first Spanish robot to assist in this type of surgery. In 2007, he received the Andalusia Day award for this. He developed a more advanced version for the Reina Sofia Hospital in Cordoba and won the aforementioned award in 2015. At the time COVID developed the Andalucía Respira mechanical ventilator, the first in Europe for clinical use.
